Outdoor Gross Motor Activities using Chalk Here are some activities you can create out your back garden for the kiddies using just chalk. Area: Gross motor skills, academic You need: Chalk, space to create the activity on outside Activity One Regular Hopscotch Gross motor skills: Jumping with 2 feet, jumping with 1 foot, landing Academic: calling out the numbers, following the number order to get from start to finish Game: Throw a stone and whatever number it lands on the child must jump to that number. Activity Two Match the feet Hopscotch Gross motor skills: Using both feet, balance, jumping, landing, standing on 1 foot Game: The child must match their feet to the ones drawn in the circles to make their way from the green go circle to the red stop circle. Kiddies must jump from one circle to the other and land with the correct feet. Activity Three Shapes/numbers/letters Gross motor skills: Running to find the correct one and bending down to point to it Academic: Learning shapes/numbers/letters/colours in a fun and active way. Game: Draw out shapes/numbers/letters/colours and then ask the child to go find a certain one for example find the triangle. Game: Start writing the alphabet and get your child to call out the next letter that you need to write. (same with numbers) Activity Four Make a Track Game: Make a track for the kiddies to run around or use their bikes to cycle around. Have a start, a finish and a carpark at the end. You can pretend to be the police man and stop them to ask them their name.
